April showers bring May flowers!

Friends of mine have organized a total of 12 very talented artists from Canada to create a calendar for 2014 called Seasonal Beauties! This is my piece for April. The calendar follows the story of two people who meet (Amy and Scott) and fall in love in Toronto.

a girl in space

The colors on my mac and the cintiq are very different. I wonder which one is more accurate? I've been trying to do achieve this specific mood... Atmospheric and dark, but bright and overall simple with little bits of happy details. I don't think I've got it yet..

fat cat monster

Sometimes it's very satisfying to draw horrible things.. to get it out of your system. It's in all of us.

lighting study

This is my view from where I'm sitting, except 99% of the time, the blinds are completely closed because the bright light is distracting when it's in my face. A little sad that it's preferable to work in a dark room...

I was lucky enough to participate in Light Grey Art Lab's exhibition for their show, STATION ZERO, where over 80 artists were chosen and asked to re-do a vintage sci fi book. All sci-fi books were personally mailed out to individual addresses so it was a pretty cool project to be a part of. :) THANK YOU!

You can purchase prints HERE :P

Justin Time!

I think for various reasons, these are some of my favorite backgrounds I've done for Justin Time season 2 at Guru Studio. JT is probably my favorite project to have worked on so far, and I feel lucky to have been a part of it. The stars were aligned. It wasn't only that it was a good looking show, which it really is (and yes, working on a good looking show helps but it's not everything), but I learned so much and I feel like I've grown from stretching myself constantly. There was always something challenging that drove me to want to be a better artist, and it helped that I was always inspired and humbled for working next to such amazing, wicked-talented artists.

I sort of felt like I needed to express my feelings and reflect on what it was like to work on this show because there were so many things about it that made it really special, including the production team; directors, producers, production managers etc... everyone was awesome to work with. With so many things that could've gone wrong, in this extremely rare case, the stars were aligned, and it was pretty sweet.

Hi-lo navy blue military jacket. It's what I'd buy. :)
I'd call it "Blue Valentine" because it's blue, and military jackets are romantic.

girl sketch

Holy moly guacamole.

Sorry blog, it's been so long.
I'm sure by now even friends have stopped caring about this sad and lonely blog. Hopefully I can stay more faithful to posts and generate more traffic. In the meantime...
A sketch.
I haven't drawn people in SO long... I almost forgot how hard it is. I've been doing too much environment, not enough human. Rocky sketch. It'll come back...

rach & sam married! and I had the pleasure of designing their wedding invitations! Here are the characters I did as part of the invitations. I tried making the characters as close to their personalities as I could, and I think I was pretty successful. The fact that they're my friends, helped. It was a lot of fun, and they loved it! Thanks for asking me!

George R. R. Martin is in town!

I needed to quickly come up with a quick sketch so my lovely friend Andrew Murray can get my book signed and give him a little print of this (and the one of daenerys and her dragon).
Total fan-girl... (embarrassing...)

it's been a while since i've posted! what else is new! i'm a little/very tired of hearing me say that in my head, and typing it out everytime i post something new on my blog.
but seriously, i really need to whip my ass into gear and post more often.
i have creative ADD tho. it's not an excuse or anything, but i'll think of something i want to do, and then get distracted and think of something else... and it's a never ending cycle... that never began. how sad. anyway. if i ever made a new years resolution.. it should be that i should stick to an idea and work at it.

here's martin sokol, paul watling and sam bradley. a coupla cool dudes i work with. :)

shiny new post

**EDIT** Photobucket YAYY!!!! i got this gif to work!!! :D

my first comic animation! i've seen it before, and it seemed like a wonderful thing, so i decided to try my hand at it myself.
it was meant to be a small fun project i dabbled in when i felt like i was falling asleep at work, but it turned out to be a great learning adventure! i learned what works and what doesn't in an animation comic and am pretty excited to try another one.
hopefully it'll be better the next time around! :)

note: this actually happened. not that i'm lazy at work. monday mornings are just.. really difficult. :^)

so a bunch of my school friends and i sat "together" on the round table via cyberspace a la facebook/emails and twiddled our thumbs, stroked our beards, twisted our 'staches, scratched our bellies, drank ale out of a horn and polished our swords and thought: wouldnt it be cool if we made a calendar? actually that's a lie. it was all kyu's master plan.

anyway. it's cute, it's cool, it's hot, it's vundervul.

it'll be available at FANEXPO in TORONTO from Aug 25 - 28. for $25!!

- 8.5 x 11"
- 14 full colored calendar pages with artwork for JAN 2012 - DEC 2012 (plus a little extra art)
- awesome squared.

look for the amazing action ape. aka braden poirier, aka this dude's table. i know he looks scary, but i promise he won't (may) bite.

(super huge props to kyu again for coordinating everything and having our backs <3 never would've started/finished without him!)

***** PS: if u'd like to buy directly from me, you can totally do that as well!!! :) just email me or leave me a message on my fb!! mucho gracias! *****

biker red riding hood

so... i think i sketched this last year... and it changed a bit since then. (she used to have pupils instead of dots for instance) anyway. i decided to revive it but got fed up on working on it for the past few nights and decided to just finish it off. i suck at drawing vehicles. hahaha! please don't laugh at my awkward bike. actually, you can. just don't tell me. hahaha :)

anyway! last year, i had a thing with little red riding hood, and did a bunch of other sketches and backgrounds. i'll be working on whatever i can and start sending them off to cyber space.

daenerys + dragon

...oh no!!! no white background!

haha. you totally thought i was going to hibernate for another year before i post another piece of artwork that actually required my tablet for what it was made for eh...

i gave birth to my first dragon, and fan art (if it hasn't clicked yet - Game of Thrones from HBO). and no white background! time to celebrate by sleeping! :D

also, custom brushes in this one (mostly for the wings) were stolen from my friend kyu. who got it... from somewhere i forgot.

anyway... it IS my first dragon... i know all you fantasy artists will judge me, (and actually, normal ppl might judge me too..) but be kind please :)
actually, i only put a brown bg, cause i made daenarys too light (and her white hair...) so i thought she'd disappear.

does she? i dunno. meh. u have both now. so be happy. actually, I'M happy.
